Kym's Health

Good morning everyone.

I wonder if you could spare a minute for a quick prayer this morning...

Kym is off to the doctor to have his blood pressure checked.

About 8 years ago we discovered by accident (he ended up in hospital after coming off his motorbike, so had his blood pressure taken) that Kym has ridiculously high blood pressure. He also has high cholesterol.

After lots of tests there was no cause found for either condition, other than hereditary. His Mum has high blood pressure, his grandpa on his Mum's side died at the age of 52 from a heart attack.

Kym isn't overweight. Doesn't smoke (anymore). Doesn't drink to excess. He is physically fit and leads a pretty healthy lifestyle.

So, he was put on medication, which fixed both problems.

Until now.

In the past couple of years his blood pressure has been on the rise again. A month ago the doctor changed his medication. He was warned that this may make his blood pressure drop significantly and to be careful when standing up as he may be light headed.

Well. This super strength medication has brought his blood pressure down. A little. It certainly hasn't made him light headed.

Today he visits the doctor again for a check up. If the doctor isn't happy with his progress he may increase the dosage, or send Kym to a heart specialist.

To be honest, I'd rather he just went to the heart specialist. With his family history I'd like to know what's going on.

Lord, I pray that the doctor will give Kym a clear course of action today. And that we will find answers to his health issues. Please give the doctor clarity and help him make the right decision with regard to Kym.

Thanks Lelia.

He got a pretty good report, and the doctor has increased his dosage. The blood pressure is coming down...but I have this nagging feeling it's a symptom of something more sinister and we just haven't worked it out yet.

I'm not usually a paranoid person...but I'm feeling paranoid about this.

Hhhhmmmmmmmmm.... Kym with a potential "heart issue" ~ to me, a very interesting physical situation. I shall pray for Kym's heart (in multiple ways) and for his blood pressure to come down too!

Sharon,

Sounds like he has a very positive family history of heart disease, especially with a close relative having problems at such an early age. He definitely needs to get to a cardiologist and get super control of the blood pressure and cholesterol. He has major risk factors for a heart attack and they need to be on top of it NOW.

I spent a large part of my secular career in cardiology and mostly preventive cardiology. I've seen a lot of Kym-type people and heart attacks can be prevented but it takes major lifestyle changes and medication.

Praying for him and his heart (physical and spiritual).

Regardless of what his doctor says, it surely wouldn't hurt to go to a specialist. Not only to verify but also for his (and your) peace of mind.

I just said a prayer for the 2 of you.

Another note....are you sure we weren't twins separated at birth? lol. I say that because it seems we have so much in common. And after your last comment on my post it seems even more likely. Another Cindi Lauper fan? Who would have thought!

Joanie: I hadn't thought of it from that perspective! Thanks for your prayers.

Leah: His cholesterol has been under control for quite some time now, and he is careful with his diet. The reason they put him on medication was because they couldn't fault his lifestyle, which is something I guess. Both Kym and the doctor seem happy to increase his dosage to manage his blood pressure. I'm the only one panicking.

MyADHD: Yes I often think that we were seperated at birth! And Cindi Lauper ROCKS!
